Are you thinking of renovating your monitor? You may be looking for the thirteen monitors that we propose in this article find what you’re looking for. Our selection is quite heterogeneous, incidentally, because we have tried to cover most scenarios possible use. But, yes, they all have something in common: their price is below 300 dollars.
The most interesting conclusion we can draw from this small sample of what offers us the market is that the IPS panels enjoy very good health, but this does not mean we cannot get hold of interesting alternatives. In fact, under these lines, you will find monitors that use panels TN, VA, and even PLS. Each, of course, with its strengths and weaknesses if you want to discover which one is best suited to what you’re looking you just have to continue reading fits.
What we sacrifice for less than 300 dollars?
The most immediate answer is simple: the resolution. None of the monitors we suggest in this article exceeds 1,920 x 1,080 points set by the Full HD standard, for many users will be more than enough, but some expect a screen of 27 or 28 inches will offer a greater density of points per inch. Well, there is actually another one escape this constraint: the LG 29UM67-P and its 2,560 x 1,080 dots. But, of course, there is a compelling reason that explains why you use this resolution: the aspect ratio of the panel is 21: 9.
The good news is that the overall picture quality of these monitors, despite its moderate price, is great. Logically, there are noticeable differences between TN panels, IPS, VA, and PLS, but any of these technologies can offer very good results if accompanied by a logical well thought out management panel.
Still, it is clear that for less than 300 dollars cannot aspire to make us with a monitor, for example, we offer 99% coverage of Adobe RGB color space. The UHD monitors that offer us such benefits are much more expensive, but not everyone needs them. They are suitable for professional video editing and digital image processing. But fortunately, much of users can be quite happy with monitors such as those featured in this article. And if we can toil away a little more, we can even make us similar to these screens, but with UHD panels. In any case, you have the last word.
This proposal demonstrates that despite moving into a demure price segment can aspire to us with a monitor with a careful design. In any case, this is not the most appealing feature of this Acer. The most important are that the Taiwanese brand has opted for an IPS panel with LED backlight, of course, Full HD resolution, a brightness level up to what we require a monitor today, and a time of interesting answer, though not the lowest of the selection that we offer in this article.
Another noteworthy feature of the S276HL is the ability to adjust the screen tilt from – 5 to 15 degrees, although, unfortunately, does not rotate and can change its height. Regarding connectivity has HDMI inputs and VGA. One final note: your energy label is A, allowing you to not exceed 36 watts of consumption. In principle, we can consider an “off – road” you will feel comfortable both in office environments when processing images or video editing.
Perhaps this monitor is not so gracefully from an aesthetic point of view as some of its rivals in this selection. Still, as you can see in the picture, it is not at all ugly. In any case, it is a balanced proposal that uses an IPS LED panel similar to many of the alternatives that we propose in this article, and with levels of brightness and interesting contrast (do not forget to take a look at the table you have under these lines).
It is well to note that this AOC incorporates an input compatible with the MHL standard, so it is an interesting option if you need to connect, in addition to our computer or a game console, your smartphone or tablet. On the other hand, the battery of the latter devices is loaded while remaining connected to the monitor. One last interesting note: the buttons that allow us to manipulate (the can see in the lower right corner) are tactile, and, thanks to its location, easily accessible.
The design of the base of the monitor clearly indicates that Asus has sought to bring about a nice screen. However, the most important of this device is that it uses an AH-IPS panel with LED backlighting of the last generation that can expect high image quality. In addition, your speakers are amplified by one ICE power Bang & Olufsen module working in class D, so its sound, at least, must be very worthy.
As you can see in the picture, its sides and top frames are fine (the bezel measuring just 0.8 mm), which appreciate if we care about the aesthetics. And with regard to connectivity includes two HDMI ports, unlike many of its rivals, which only have one, and also a D-Sub input 15. For this reason, it is positioned as a palatable alternative if you need to connect simultaneously, for example, a computer and a game console.
The second monitor Asus that we propose is quite similar to MX279H model we just saw, but differ in several sections that are worth us to stop. The VX279Q is a bit cheaper, although, on paper, the image quality of both models should be identical because the two are betting on an AH-IPS panel with LED backlight last batch. Its brilliance, contrast, and viewing angles are also the same.
However, we are reviewing the screen does not have the amplifier module Bang & Olufsen ICEpower, so the sound should be somewhat smaller than the MX279H.Of course, if you have the intention to connect external speakers this is no problem. Moreover, an asset that counts this model is the compatibility of the HDMI port with MHL standard, which allows us to connect a smartphone or tablet to view its contents in this 27 – inch monitor, and, incidentally, charge the battery of the portable device.
If you like video games and spend them a part of your free time, it is possible that this is the monitor you are looking for. And it is clear that BenQ has strived to perfect a screen clearly designed for gamers. The clearest indication of this is the choice of a TN panel and not one IPS. The latter usually offer a better image quality, but the TN have a lower response time (1ms this model, according to BenQ), which is important if we want to enjoy the highest possible accuracy during our games.
Another nod of this brand gamers technologies are reducing motion blur, low emission of blue light, eliminating flicker and high refresh rate that has been implemented in the XL2411Z. And they are all very desirable if we like games. It also allows us to adjust the height of the screen, and also its inclination and the vertical and horizontal rotation. It’s not the prettiest monitor selection, but still, you see that looks really good.
I have to confess that at first it was not clear that was to include this monitor in this selection because he is a veteran product that somehow has been exceeded. However, in the end, I decided because, although it takes quite some time on the market, in some sections is still a reference, at least in its price range.
Thanks to its VA panel (Vertical Alignment) stands out by contrast and black level higher even that we offer monitors with IPS panel. Of course, the latter outgrows its greater precision when color reproduction, and also provide a more stable response time. For these reasons the S2440L is not the best choice for video games, but it is very desirable for office environments, and, above all, to work with photographs and video. Moreover, its price is really good.
Dell UltraSharp U2415
This second proposal Dell has a more similar to that of its rivals in this article, which features an IPS panel with LED backlight setting. Of course, it stands out from the other screens by its aspect ratio, which in this UltraSharp U2415 is 16:10 (it is a bit more square), and also by its brightness level, which reaches 300 cd / m², a value more than 250 cd / m² of which they boast most of its competitors.
As you can see in the picture, its design is simple and fairly “clean”, and it highlights the base in a metallic finish. Adjust the screen height, and tilt, pivot and rotation. But what may cause many users opt for it is its connectivity, which includes two HDMI / MHL, one mini DisplayPort, another DisplayPort 1.2, one more DisplayPort output (MST) and six USB 3.0 ports connectors? As you see, it is not bad.
HP EliteDisplay E231e
In a first contact this monitor surprises with its metallic finish, which gives it an aura of modernity very consistent with its second – generation IPS panel. Both its aesthetic and its specifications tell us that this is a monitor with decidedly professional vocation, so it is desirable for office environments, and also to manipulate photographs and video by the precision with which this panel restores the colors and interesting contrast. However, it is not a tempting proposal to play because their response time is excessive (here for the time being continue sending TN panels).
Like some of the monitors with being measured in this article, the EliteDisplay E231e allows us to adjust the orientation and tilt of the screen. And it’s not but connectivity is bad. In fact, it incorporates an input D-Sub 15, another DVI-D with HDCP support, a DisplayPort 1.2 (also with support HDCP) and three USB 2.0 ports. Of course, I miss at least one HDMI input, reflecting clearly, as I said before, its professional vocation.
Lenovo ThinkVision LT2423
If we stick to its design it is quite clear that this monitor Lenovo is not one of the most graceful of the article, but has several features that make it worthy of having their niche in this article. Your heart is a TN panel with LED backlight, which already gives us clues about the usage scenario in which you feel most comfortable: video games. Their response time of 5 ms, is aligned theory with which we offer most of the designs with IPS panel, but, although the response match in practice the response of TN panels usually faster and its image quality a little lower.
In any case, what has really encouraged me to speak of this monitor is its interesting quality / price ratio. In fact, it is the cheapest of this selection in a forceful way, although the panel is 24 inches. Two more notes to finish: incorporates two 3 – watt speakers and connectivity includes an input D-Sub 15 and over HDMI 1.4.
If you watch the picture of this monitor you will know right away what makes it different: its aspect ratio. And it is a solution 21: 9 LED uses an IPS panel with a resolution of 2560 x 1080 dots. These characteristics make it very appealing for video games, and, above all, to play movies, although it is clear that it is also perfectly valid for everything that has to do with the manipulation of photographs, video, and even for office tasks.
Its brightness of 300 cd / m² is superior to that we offer most of its rivals, and its contrast rate is not bad, positioning it as a true “off – road”. Even so, just take a look at the technologies introduced LG on this screen, such as synchronization Refresher monitor and graphics card, reducing latency or improvement of the level of detail in dark areas, to realize that the South Korean brand, above all, wants to seduce gamers.
From an aesthetic point of view, this monitor does not stand out against its rivals in this selection, but has a major asset: it incorporates an AH-IPS panel art. As we have seen only proposals and this Asus Philips resort to these panels, which theoretically puts a little ahead of its competitors in terms of overall picture quality.
Moreover, this 274E5QDAB offers us what you would expect from a monitor of these features: a brightness level average, a rather remarkable contrast and interesting response time. Yes, it is compatible with the MHL standard, which allows us to connect our smartphone or tablet to view its contents on the monitor, and, incidentally, charge your battery. E incorporates two 12 watt speakers, so they are clearly more powerful than other similar monitors, which usually remain below 5 watts.
Samsung’s proposal that I found interesting to include in this selection is a 27 -inch monitor with a careful design and an equally elaborate construction in which its metallic finish and a very stylized pedestal stand. Its “heart” is a panel of PLS type LED backlight that can expect a viewing angle close to 180 degrees both vertically and horizontally, a capacity of restitution of accurate color and low response time, but not both as TN panels.
First of all, this LS27D590PSX is a balanced monitor. It is probably the most versatile of all I selected in this article, largely thanks to its panel product. And its price is quite reasonable. Interestingly, it has a feature that can draw attention to gamers: a button that, when pressed, decreases the entry delay, improves contrast and increases the brightness. And with respect to its connectivity it is not bad: incorporates two HDMI ports and one D-Sub 15.
Like Dell in its S2440L, which we talked a little higher, ViewSonic has chosen by a panel of type VA with LED backlight, on paper, we guarantee a contrast and black level great, but probably its ability to restore the color is not as precise as that of the IPS and PLS panels. Still, I had the opportunity to see in operation other VA LED monitors this Californian manufacturer and the truth is that often reproduce the color in a very satisfactory manner.
Its connectivity is pretty neat; in fact, it incorporates two HDMI inputs compatible with the MHL standard, and also a type D-Sub 15, like many of its rivals. And the sound does not look bad thanks to the integrated stereo speakers, although possibly are a bit short of power (the amplifier charge of “attacking” has 2 watts). Still, it is a 28-inch monitor very carefully and reasonably priced so worth keeping in mind.
